20 years and counting.

Aussie Broadband was born from the merger of two regional internet service providers in 2008, Wideband Networks and Westvic Broadband. Since then, we've grown to become one of Australia's leading telecommunications and technology providers.

A lot has happened.

2003

Formation of Westvic Broadband and Wideband Networks

Phillip Britt and John Reisinger founded Wideband Networks, while Westvic Broadband was founded by 5 businessmen, including current Board member, Patrick Greene.

2007

Over the Wire emerges

Over the Wire was established in Brisbane by Michael Omeros and Brent Paddon.

2008

Aussie Broadband is born

Wideband Networks and Westvic Broadband merged to form Aussie Broadband to provide a variety of internet services including ADSL, VoIP, and web hosting.

2009

nbn® announced by the Federal Government

The Federal Government released a statement announcing the formation of the National Broadband Network (NBN), a nation-wide plan to connect Australia to high-speed broadband.

2013

Aussie connects to its first NBN POI

Aussie Broadband connected to its first NBN Point of Interconnect (POI) in regional Victoria.

2014

First Aussie customer on the NBN

We connected our very first NBN customer, and established more direct connections to local NBN POIs in Gippsland.

2015

Over the Wire goes public

Over the Wire launched as ASX: OTW on the Australian Stock Exchange.

2016

Aussie rolls out its own NBN backhaul network

Aussie Broadband expanded its NBN product by implementing its very own backhaul network connecting to all of the NBN connection points; becoming the only telco provider outside of “the big four” to do so at the time.

2019

100,000 customers

Aussie Broadband hits a milestone of 100,000 customers and upgrades its network capacity to welcome up to an additional 400,000 more.

2020

ASX:ABB goes live

The company began trading under the ticker 'ABB' on the Australian Securities Exchange at 11am on 16 October 2020.

2021

400,000 customers

On 2 August 2021 we hit another milestone - over 400K customers - following rapid growth and diversification, and just under three years after hitting the 100K milestone.

2022

Over the Wire merger

Aussie Broadband joined forces with Over the Wire to offer a range of voice, data, and cloud services to a broader mix of customer segments.

2023

The Actual Aussie Way

In recognition that the business had grown beyond its roots in smaller customer segments, a new brand position - The Actual Aussie Way - was launched. The rebranding acknowledges expansion beyond simply selling internet services and reflects the company's growth to become a versatile telco and tech company.

We announced our B Corporation certification featuring some highlights from our community  outreach activities, employee programmes, and customer awards.

2023

B Corp Certification

In August 2023, Aussie Broadband became a certified B Corporation - becoming the largest telco in the country to achieve such accreditation.

Celebrating 20 years

On 1 December 2023, Aussie Broadband celebrated its 20th anniversary since the formation of Westvic and Wideband Networks. Time flies when you're having fun!
