Aussie Broadband has announced that the first of its off-net customers have been migrated to its new national network.

Managing Director, Phillip Britt, said that customers in Cairns have been the first to be migrated to the new system – an exciting new development for the small Australian telco.

“Until now, Aussie customers outside our regional-based network had been offered services through a third party arrangement with Optus,” said Phil.

“However, this didn’t give us enough control over the quality of service and support that our off-net customers were receiving.

“We decided to roll out a national network that would put all our nbn customers “on-net” with us. As far as we know, we’re the only ISP outside the big four to do this.”

Phil said that although there had been some frustrating delay in the purchase of the new network, it’s now all systems go.

“Aussie customers will be migrated constantly over the next three months as new links go live,” he said.

“Our customers may notice a short, 15 minute down-time while they are migrated, but otherwise there should be no other negative impact.

“In fact, customers who have been experiencing evening slowdowns should notice an immediate improvement once they’ve been migrated, as we closely manage our bandwidth to avoid congestion issues.

“Our Australian-based call centre will also have much more control over the system to be able to provide technical support to customers.”
