Aussie Broadband turned to one of its local customers to open its new office in Lynbrook in the outer South East of Melbourne last week.

Cassie Lindsay and her two-year-old daughter, Evie, cut the ribbon to declare the building officially open. Cassie said she was delighted to be given the opportunity.

“I would like to thank Aussie Broadband for inviting me to open this building. This has been a brilliant experience, one that I will never forget.”

Guests included the Deputy Mayor of Casey, Cr Gary Rowe, senior representatives from NBN and other local businesses and stakeholders.

In his speech, Managing Director Phil Britt talked about how important customers are to the business.

“We have senior staff interacting regularly with customers online, and we’ve even enabled customers to self-serve their troubleshooting via an app. We want to set next practice, not best practice,” he said.

Aussie Broadband was formed from a merger between Wideband Networks, started by Phil Britt and his business partner John Reisinger in the Latrobe Valley, and Westvic Broadband based in Warrnambool, in 2008.

Lynbrook has become the company’s fifth office, joining other locations in Darwin, Warrnambool and two in Morwell, including the head office.

Phil said that the company has experienced rapid growth and is looking forward to attracting new talent.

“We’ve grown from 60 to close to 300 staff and we’re adding around 10,000 new customers a month,” he said.

The Lynbrook office is expecting to bring 150 jobs to the area, including customer support roles, communications and HR.

During his speech, Phil spoke about how the company’s strong values impact the way it does business.

“What we’re really interested in is changing the game. We’ve already changed the telco game in numerous ways – such as going national when many said it couldn’t be done and publishing our daily bandwidth graphs,” he said.

“We’re promoting inclusion and diversity in tech, and we’re keen to demonstrate how businesses can impact their communities for the better. Half our leadership team are Scout leaders in their spare time, and community is important to us. What you see here today, at Lynbrook, is another part of our game.”

Phil said the company is looking forward to building a larger presence in Lynbrook.

“When it became difficult to recruit enough customer service staff in the Latrobe Valley, we knew we needed another call centre location. But rather than opting for a shiny new office somewhere in the central city, we’ve gone for a practical space here in the outer south-east of Melbourne.” Phil said.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor of Casey, Cr Gary Rowe, welcomed Aussie Broadband to the community.

“I hope you’re enjoying your new surroundings. As Deputy Mayor of the City of Casey, we are all extremely proud that we have the privilege of your presence amongst our community. So welcome, Aussie Broadband, to Lynbrook,” he said.

In lieu of branded materials for guests, the company is also making a donation to local charities including the Cranbourne United Church food truck service for people experiencing homelessness in Cranbourne, the Bridge, The Dandenong and District Aborigines Co-operative and MIND Australia Dandenong.
