Aussie Broadband has announced that it will participate in NBN’s new Fibre Connect program, which offers upgrades from fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) or fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) technologies to full fibre for eligible customers.

The initial tranche, which kicked off on Tuesday, will focus on FTTN customers, with FTTC premises being introduced into the program in May.

Managing Director Phillip Britt said this is good news for customers, RSPs and the industry.

“We’ve been taking part in trials over the past few months, and we’re keen to participate in NBN’s new fibre upgrade scheme.

“From today, eligible customers who are currently on FTTN will be able to order fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP). To qualify, customers need to be on, or move to, a 100Mbps plan or above.

“It’s great to see that NBN has made this rollout available where eligible, because now even more customers can benefit from better speeds and greater reliability that comes with an FTTP connection.

“This is also good news for RSPs as it means higher speed tier options become available for more customers, which could lead to better margins,” Phil said.

Aussie Broadband has approximately 9,000 eligible customers on FTTC or FTTN technologies.

FTTC available in May

“Eligible FTTC customers will be able to apply for the Fibre Connect program from the end of May. To qualify, customers need to be on, or move to, the 250Mbps plan or higher,” Phil said.

“Customers must stay on the higher-speed plan for a minimum of 12 months, unless they’re facing financial hardship, or NBN may charge a downgrade fee of $200. This applies to both FTTN and FTTC upgrades.”
