Aussie Broadband’s network continues to grow with terabits of new local caching!

As part of its mission to continually provide a premium network experience, Aussie Broadband is proud to announce upgrades to its network infrastructure that will continue to improve the experience for users.

A key element of any premium network is the establishment of local caching, which reduces the distance and amount of latency between users and the movies, TV shows, games and other content they want to enjoy. To that end, Aussie Broadband is in the process of adding one terabit per second of Netflix capacity. The local caches will be able to handle tens of thousands of additional simultaneous streams for users, avoiding the need for users to have to repeatedly re-download content. Aussie’s new Netflix caches, which will boost the network’s total capacity for Netflix content by almost 140 per cent, are currently in the process of being racked and commissioned.

“Aussie Broadband is always expanding and growing its network to ensure the best possible experience for customers,” Ben Cornish, Aussie Broadband General Manager of Networks, said. “By installing more local caches, we’re bringing content closer to Aussie users – reducing the latency between them and the content and making the experience better for our customers.”

The upgrades are part of Aussie’s continued network growth, which includes the recent commissioning of two 400GE links between Sydney and Melbourne. Aussie has also boosted its Google interconnection capacity in Sydney and Melbourne to 600 gigabits per second. The company also added extra capacity in Singapore for international traffic via the EdgeIX and Equinix IX exchanges.

“Our engineers are always monitoring network telemetry and global trends,” John Reisinger, Aussie Broadband Chief Technology Officer, said. “The team is constantly reviewing these analytics to proactively identify new content that can be brought closer to the user, so we can always provide the best possible network experience.”

Aussie Broadband continues to grow its suite of on-net caches to improve the user experience. The company directly peers with multiple major content distribution networks, including but not limited to: Akamai, Amazon, Cloudfront, Activision-Blizzard, Cloudflare, Facebook, Fetch, Google, Oracle, Edgecast, Microsoft, Twitch, Netflix, and more.
