Aussie Broadband is today proud to announce it is supporting the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI), a federal program that will deliver free internet for up to 30,000 Australian families for 12 months.

Through the Australian Government Initiative, Aussie Broadband will provide free unlimited 50/20 fixed line broadband, or unlimited fixed Wireless Plus connection, to eligible families depending on the technology type available at their location. (Skymuster 50GB plans will also be available for eligible households that require satellite access through other participating RSPs.)

The program is designed to connect families and students who are not yet connected to the nbn® network. Any cost of connecting the premises for eligible families will be covered by NBN Co free of charge, while Aussie Broadband supply a NetComm modem/router at zero cost. Aussie Broadband has already connected some families to the program as part of an earlier pilot trial with NBN Co.

“Aussie Broadband has always believed in the power of connectivity to combat inequity, and it’s why we were proud to be one of the few RSPs to help drive the Government Initiative pilot program,” Aussie Broadband chief strategy officer Jonathan Prosser said.

“This program will help Aussie kids get the most from their education. Along with our support for the Small Change Big Change program, our support for the Pledge 1% initiative, and discounted connections for non-profit organisations, clubs and community groups, we’re happy to do our small part to level the playing field for all Australians.”

Eligible families can be nominated by education departments, schools, and community organisations selected by the Australian Government. Those organisations will be able to nominate families through an SSBI registration portal. Families will then receive a unique voucher code that can be redeemed through Aussie Broadband later this year.

All information contained in this media release, including references to costs, speed, and capability of the Aussie Broadband network, was correct at time of publication, and may have since changed.
