Last Updated: Tuesday 27 Feb 2024

This article provides the steps required to successfully setup your email account in Outlook (Microsoft 365 version) on a Windows PC.

This version is the latest version of Outlook. If you're using an older release, check out our other email setup guides.

  1. Open the Outlook app on your computer.

  2. Click on File from the menu bar in the top left corner of the window, then click Add Account near the top of the window.

Screenshot of Outlook (Microsoft 365 version) displaying the 'Account Information' page, with the 'Info' tab selected.

  3. A new window should open. Type in your email address and click Advanced options. Tick the option for Let me set up my account manually and click Connect.

  4. On the following page, select IMAP under Advanced setup (read more before choosing POP).

  5. Next, enter the password for your email address and click Connect. Outlook will try to automatically detect the settings for your email account.
Please note: For Aussie Broadband email accounts, the password is set separately from your MyAussie® account. You can reset your email password from MyAussie® if you forgot.

    • If successful, the next page will say Account successfully added. Click Done to finish setup.

    • If Outlook cannot automatically detect the settings, you will see an error. Continue to Step 6 if this happens.

  6. If Steps 1 to 5 didn't work, an error will show that states 'Something went wrong' and 'The connection to the incoming server was dropped Please check the incoming server settings and try again'. Click the button that says Change Account Settings.

    1. Incoming mail

      • Server: mail.aussiebroadband.com.au

      • Port: 993 (use 995 instead for POP)

      • Encryption method: SSL/TLS

    2. Outgoing mail

      • Server: mail.aussiebroadband.com.au

      • Port: 465

      • Encryption method: SSL/TLS

  8. Leave the boxes for Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) un-ticked. Once you have filled out all of these fields, click Next. You may be prompted to enter your password again.

  9. If successful, the next page will say Account successfully added. Click Done to finish setup.

Once all these steps have been completed, the pop-up window should disappear, and Outlook will try to synchronise your emails from the server. If a lot of emails are stored in your account, it may a while to load them all.

And that’s how you log in to your Aussie Broadband email address using Outlook (Microsoft 365 version) on a Windows PC!
